Tijuana Bibles were underground pornographic comics made between the 20s and 60s. Their popularity was at it's height during the Great Depression.
Between 1920 and 1960 there were between 700-1000 original stories circulated. The comics were wallet size, had 8 panels, and were 8 pages long.
The authors and artists were unknown and they weren't all the same. They depicted various popular figures of the time without permission and used ethnic stereotypes greatly.
They were distributed in garages, schools, barber shops, and other local places.
